Together. . ."We" are The Arc!
The Arc began in 1936 as a dedicated group of parents advocating for better care of their special needs children in institutions. It was a parent movement that grew to include a host of family members, self-advocates, guardians, care-givers, providers, agencies, educators, neighbors, friends, and concerned citizens - all working together for people who live with the life-long effects of I/DD...and we are still at work today!
Local parents and advocates formed The Arc's Yakima County chapter in 1953. Members of our local chapter have joined in the work of The Arc to advocate for the rights, respect, and inclusion of people with I/DD in our communities then - and now - for future generations.
Yesterday, and today, we all are a part of a grassroots family advocacy network spread throughout Yakima County, the state, and nation.
Consider becoming a part of The Arc's important work in the Yakima Valley!
